Director of Engineering
Location: Evolving Texas – In office
Employment Type: Full-Time
The Director of Engineering will hold a P.E. license in Civil Engineering. The Director of Engineering is responsible for all Project Delivery Operations of the company and will manage all production staff, including Project Managers, Designers, drafters and others. He/She will manage and/or direct the civil design, scheduling, budgeting and permitting of construction plans, while collaborating with consultants and the design team to ensure the best design approach, methods and for Project Delivery. The Director of Engineering will work closely with the President to implement processes to obtain company goals and standards.
Responsibilities will include:
- Develop new Clients and client networking
- Develop project scope and budgets for proposals;
- Draft Proposals for new projects and provide to the President for review
- Utilize AutoCAD and Civil 3d as practical, to design Engineering Construction Drawings for Commercial, Residential Subdivision, Industrial, Retail, Multi-family and Capital Improvement Projects.
- Using Sound engineering principals, processes and techniques, Direct the civil design and coordinate work with other staff and design team members;
- Direct design team in design and preparation of drawings and specification packages.
- Maintain Company Standards, CAD templates, Specifications, Construction Details and design tools necessary for optimal performance of the design teams
- Perform and/or direct all grading, drainage and utility designs to local standards;
- Coordination with local authorities, regulatory agencies, contractors, staff, etc. during project design and construction.
- Maintain and grow existing client accounts/relationships.
- Prepare preliminary, engineering and detailed cost estimates.
- Any other duties as assigned which are relevant to the position.
- Maintain full operational knowledge of all projects in order to best assist the design teams with design obstacles, development processes with Municipalities
- Ensure that all projects are properly budgeted and scheduled in the current project Management software systems
- Ensure that all operational staff is fully engaged to weekly billable goals using Factor software or the software being used by Evolving Texas for this purpose
- Ensure that all Invoicing is accomplished on schedule
Essential Job Functions:
- The Director of Engineering must have an in-depth knowledge and current status of all projects;
- The Director of Engineering must have an in-depth knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D;
- Manage direct work totaling between $.4MM - $.5MM in invoiced work to be collected from clients
- The Director of Engineering must have the ability to read and understand consultant drawings and reports, and incorporate them, as needed, into the Civil Construction Drawings;
- The Director of Engineering must have an expert knowledge of civil engineering infrastructure projects, including paving, water, sewer, grading and drainage;
- The Director of Engineering must manage projects in a self-sufficient manner with minimal supervision;
- The Director of Engineering must train engineering and operational staff;
- The Director of Engineering must delegate tasks to design team via our current Project Management software;
- The Director of Engineering must review assigned tasks, time management software and remaining budgets for all projects to ensure project is on-track to be completed on time and within budget constraints;
- The Director of Engineering must ensure completion of QC/QA Checklists on all projects before submissions are made to clients or reviewing agencies;
- The Director of Engineering must have the ability to manage competing priorities and assignments through delegation and situational leadership;
- The Director of Engineering must have a Professional demeanor and project a positive and professional image;
- The Director of Engineering must be continuously seeking improvements to existing processes and project delivery;
- The Director of Engineering must be self-motivated but also be a team player;
- The Director of Engineering must have strong communications skills both written and oral;
- The Director of Engineering must possess the ability to negotiate and facilitate approvals through all reviewing authorities using engineering logic, problem-solving ability, and professionalism to further the project and maintain relationships
- The Director of Engineering must be driven to lead project teams and build relationships with clients and staff;
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in Land Development
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in Project Management;
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in Civil 3D or similar project deliver programs
